Game Review: Mass Effect (Xbox 360)

From the makers of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comes this Sci-Fi based epic RPG. As Commander John (or Jane if you so wish) Shepard you take command of the Normandy, a state of the art spaceship. Your mission is to hunt down a rogue Spectre agent called Saren and save the galaxy.

You control a small team with each member having unique abilities that aid you on your quest. During the heat of battle you are able to set them tasks, such as advance upon a position. The 3rd person view for combat is a massive improvement to the usual turn based battles normally associated with RPG’s. It allows the player to feel like they are part of the action rather than taking a back seat.

The only downside to the game is the repetitive nature of the side quests. There are only 2 or 3 different variations of environments. This can easily become boring and mundane as one space station is identical to the next.

You choose your destiny as you progress through the game; each decision you make will affect whether you become good or evil and choose which story arc you follow. Good or evil. Man or woman. The choice is yours. And with rumours Mass Effect 2 will allow you to carry on your Mass Effect save, choose wisely.

Score: 9/10
