Have you seen the Star Wars animated TV series? It’s not bad ya know, although that might have something to do with George Lucas having a hands off approach with it. Everything he’s touched recently has turned to s**t (The new Indy film and the Star Wars prequels make me so angry!!!). Anyway enough bitter nerd ranting, onto the game. Star Wars: Republic Heroes. I’m trying to pick the right word here - Terrible? Lazy? Poor? Take your pick, but if I was a member of Krome Studios I would be embarrassed to be associated with this game.
First off, the graphics. It’s what everyone notices first so let’s talk about that. I couldn’t believe it was a next-gen game. Honestly, it looks like early PS2/Original Xbox. There is absolutely no excuse for a game to look this poor. It’s dreadful to be honest. So much so that I would recommend playing this on a standard CRT TV, which will mask some of the unsightly and shoddy graphics. First time SD is better than HD!!!
Right we all know that graphics aren’t the be all and end all of games, just look at some of the great games on the DS. Hopefully the gameplay will make up for its lack of looks right? Wrong. It is an absolute disaster to play. Everything you don’t want is there. Awkward camera angles make it impossible to judge jumps, slow reaction times by your characters cost you life and time. It’s just a ball of frustration wrapped in a covering annoyance.
Even poor Star Wars games can be redeemed by simply having a lightsaber in it, this doesn’t. So much joy is ripped out of your soul because every single dreadful aspect of this game is poor. In fact I can sum it up with one phrase – Half Arsed. 2/10
